Evolution Korea
Until recently, Korea's scientific community has refrained from engaging with creationists, afraid that it could give the movement more credibility. But silence is no anymore an option.
The STR has been fighting to remove information about evolution from textbooks including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.
What is Evolution?

Evolution is a concept in science that explains the evolution of genetic traits over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their environments which can result in changes in genes or even whole genomes. These changes could over generations result in the development of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is natural selection, which describes the process through which those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantages. This differing reproduction may eventually lead to the development and emergence of new species.
The word "evolution" originates from Latin for revealing or unrolling has been used in many different ways as the concept has developed in both science as well as elsewhere. Some early evolutionists, like Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that existing species transformed into other species in a predetermined fashion. The term transmutation was coined by the Lamarck's disciple embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, criticized the idea of evolution, and borrowed the term from Geoffroy’s student.
Recently evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living creatures develop characteristics that improve their chances of survival, or their ability to reproduce offspring. As time passes this genetic variation can cause the emergence of completely new physical or biological functions in a population. Such a variation in gene frequencies is called natural selection, and is the primary driver behind evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolution since they don't pass on to future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the tests of time and thousands of scientific tests however, creationists have taken advantage of the idea that evolution is controversial to argue that it should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won some victories against evolution in high school textbooks. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary origins for humans and Archaeopteryx - a feathered dinosaur believed to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the foundations of biology, and aids scientists to understand how living things function and develop. Evolution also shows the connections between species. Scientists study evolution in order to better comprehend nature and make valuable discoveries like new drugs.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains so much about the universe and life on Earth and has been rigorously tested and verified over the course of many years. Many people, including some religious leaders, support the theory of evolution as a scientific fact. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology does not contradict religious beliefs, since the theory only deals with things, events and processes in the physical world.
Many religious people have discovered a way to reconcile evolution with their convictions. Certain Christians for instance believe that God created everything through evolution, and that humans share an ancestry that is shared with other animals.
It is crucial that scientists and educators speak out for teaching evolution. In some countries, the opposition to evolution has been rising. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) which is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research is pushing for the removal of textbook content about the evolution of horses as well as the Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
It is important to remember, however, that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies, and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support are diverse. Scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries such as developing new drugs and other treatments, while others use it to improve the lives of animals and plant species, mostly to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, and others have a profound religious belief in God and want to know how the universe functions.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and everything within it. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be interpreted in a literal manner. Although Creationists may not all be Christian, many are. Creationists generally fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
에볼루션 슬롯게임 of creationist is the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the manner described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the first six days of creation is literal and that the universe and the life on Earth were created just recently.
OECs may be less well-known, but their beliefs are just as intense as the YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is an untruth.
Both kinds of creationism deny the scientific theories that biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life began on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible because it would require a miracle, and that the pioneers of modern science shied away from miracles due to fear of losing credibility.
Some creationists are able to accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their belief "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." In this theory, God creates the original species and allows them to change over time. Then, these evolutionary changes will produce new species that are similar to the original ones.
Others believe that God created the universe and all living things in one event, known as the Great Flood. 에볼루션 슬롯게임 believe that the first species were created simultaneously, and that they developed slowly afterward. They reject the idea of abiogenesis and claim that self-replicating living cannot come from nonliving matter.
In general, the creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. Numerous professional organizations like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Certain scientists and educational institutions are however more flexible and permit both evolution and creationism to be included in their curriculum.
What is Creationism?
When people think of creationism most often, they think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolutionist movement. Publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body which is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) has been the driving force behind this drive. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of the bird, the Archeopteryx. The focus is now on the removal of excerpts from Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution as well.
STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families as well as individual members. Its mission is to cut out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of biology students teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in evolution. The reasons for this are not clear but could be due to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the United States.
The KACR accomplished a number of things through its lectures and seminars in the past. It publishes a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences with an evolutionary perspective that sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught today.
On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed thousands of people. KACR and its members have been delivering lectures on creation science in major seminaries too. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the near future.
